Lido Gallery, a creative gift shop and art gallery in Birmingham, presents a new exhibition by Michigan native Erica Podwoiski.
Podwoiski’s exhibit, which runs until Jan. 30, features figurative paintings and mixed media with a narrative about female identity and coming of age in an era of celebrity worship.
Podwoiski also features a series of embellished bras in her show, a take on the Victoria’s Secret Fantasy Bra Collection, which Podwoiski has titled “Bling for Boobs.”
The bras will be sold to benefit METAvivor, a 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization committed to research and awareness of metastatic breast cancer (www.metavivor.org). Podwoiski’s mother is battling breast cancer.
Podwoiski’s past work includes an exploration of boundaries, notions of privacy and self, female stereotypes and sexuality in the millennial age.
Podwoiski graduated with a degree in fine arts from the Columbus College of Art & Design in Columbus, Ohio. She served as a teaching assistant at the college’s Saturday Morning Art Class program for two years and received an Award for Excellence in the Visual Arts from The Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Ohio. She was also honored as Valedictorian of her class and received the Outstanding Senior in Fine Arts Award. Podwoiski’s work has been featured on the cover of Columbus’s Alive Magazine and was shown at the historic Belle Isle Conservatory in Detroit.
Lido Gallery, at 33535 Woodward Ave, is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Call 248-792-6246 or visit www.lidogallery.com.
